Australia Day

On Australia day I headed out to Kingaroy with Marayke who is one of the QLD Government Ambassadors sent to speak in rural areas. We enjoyed dinner with the mayor, formal festivities in town, then lunch at the Carrollee Hotel with family and friends, including Jimmy from Nanango who at 95 is still full of beans and thoroughly enjoyed his day with us. After lunch we were treated to a tour of the Kingaroy Art Gallery and Museum with our friendly hosts CEO John and his wife Lynette followed by an interesting first hand peanut farm experience. Lynette, a teacher, grew up on a farm neighbouring Bethany, the home of the Bjelke Petersons and she certainly educated us well on all sorts of aspects of rural life. Then we were loaded up with gifts of local produce including 5 kg of gourmet flavoured Kingaroy peanuts for the journey home. Delicious!
